Subject: Incredible sound quality!!!
Subject: Incredible sound quality!!!
This sounds good enough to be a professional release! If all stage / AUD recordings sounded this good, there wouldn't be any need for SBD recordings. Vega's bass provides a mind blowing bottom end, along with Hertz on the drums, and SK and Herring solo-ing over the top.
I've heard complaints about Herring being low in the mix. It's much different between Set 1 and 2. In Set 1, JH is a little low in the mix, but can still be heard and adds a lot. Now, in Set 2, something changed, because Herring is perfectly balanced in the mix and it seems like his levels on the recording were brought up to match Steves. It sounds perfect!! Herring adds a beautiful touch to High and Lonesome... very unique.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET THIS SOURCE!!!! Amazing show and nearly perfect sound.

This is an amazing show - Herring steps up and brings a lot of energy to the show. He and Kimock sound good together in terms of different but complementary styles and tones, and they each give each other lots of space to stretch out.
However, I have a copy on cd from a few years back and it has a much more even mix. Perhaps that is the other source available on archive? This one just wasn't as fun to listen to due to Herring's low levels. (FWIW, kimock and the others do sound good, it's just a level thing not a quality thing).

This show is absolutely smoking. The sound is incredible and the playing explosive. My only beef is that Herring is way to low in the mix. When he steps up to solo he is over powered by kimock and the rest of the band. You can still hear him, I just wish he was louder. This is a fucking nasty show. Wish we could see a P&F with Herring and Kimock.
